چکیده

Photo-initiated polymer networks were formed by copolymerization of tert-butyl acrylate with di(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (DEGDMA) or poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA). The degree of crosslinking was systematically varied by modifying the weight fraction and molecular weight of the dimethacrylate crosslinking agent. An increase in effective crosslink density with increasing crosslinking agent concentrations was confirmed by decreasing equilibrium swelling ratios (q) and increasing rubbery moduli (ER). Glass transition temperatures (Tg) varied from -22C to 124C, increasing with increasing DEGDMA content and decreasing with increasing PEGDMA content. Tensile deformation behavior (at Tg) ranged from an elastomeric-like large-strain response for lightly crosslinked materials to a small-strain brittle response for highly crosslinked networks. At low crosslinking levels, the strain-to-failure of the network polymers decreased quickly with increasing crosslinking agent concentration. The stress at failure demonstrated a more complex relationship with crosslinking agent concentration. The effect of composition on network structure and resulting properties (q, strain-to-failure) decreased as the crosslinking agent concentration increased. The results reveal trade-offs in Tg, ER, strain-to-failure, and failure stress with composition and network structure, and are discussed in light of the wide range of potential applications suggested in the literature for (meth)acrylatebased photopolymerizable polymer networks including biomaterials and shape-memory polymers.

Pickering Emulsion Polymerization of Styrene-co-butyl Acrylate Nanoparticles by Using Cloisite Na+ as Surfactant

Cloisite Na+was used as a solid surfactant (stabilizer) in Pickering emulsion polymerization of styrene-co-butyl acrylate in presence of oil soluble initiator, azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and water soluble initiator, potassium persulfate (KPS). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum approved the corporation of Cloisite Na+ layers within the polymer matrix. Effect of clay content was a...

Effect of 1,2,3-Trichloropropane as Tri-Functional Monomer on Thermophysical Properties of Poly(ethylene tetrasulfide)

In this study, the effect of 1,2,3-trichloropropane (TCP) as trifunctional monomer on thermophysical properties of synthesized poly(ethylene tetrasulfide) (PETS) is investigated. To this end, different amounts of TCP (0-40 mol. % of halide-containing monomer) were incorporated into the structure of polysulfide polymer via interfacial condensation polymerization. Measuremen...

An experimental investigation on the energy storage in a shape-memory-polymer system

In this paper, the effect of thermomechanical loading on the behavior of deflection-based harvested energies from a shape memory polymer system is experimentally investigated. Samples are created with honeycomb cells from poly-lactic acid using additive manufacturing techniques. The shape memory effect in shape recovery and force recovery paths are studied under thermomechanical tests in bendin...
